Should I Go High Definition
YES! If you can afford it and if you have a dual 2 GHz box or better. Otherwise wait. Soon HD DVD players will be in every home and you will be able to show off with all your HD movies (as soon as they make iDVD HD compatible). Currently, you can only do it with DVD Studio Pro.
Although you "can" edit HD footage I doubt most folks even have an HD camera! Most camcorders made in the last few years shoot widescreen but WIDESCREEN 16:9 DV footage is NOT High Definition (HD). HD footage is scary clear and clean looking. If you have not seen any HD footage go to to the Apple site for many wonderful examples. The new most affordable real HD camcorder out there is the Sony HDR-HC1 and it can be yours for about $1500 at Amazon. If you have a little more money and want a nice, full featured 3-CCD camcorder, treat yourself to a Sony HDR-FX1 3-CCD HDV High Definition Camcorder
.
If you want a smaller camera that shoots pretty good quality but is NOT HD try the Fisher FVDC1 that includes a 512 MB SD Memory Card (only about $300) this camera is an MP4 camera and you will be able to download and get editing in iMovie faster than a tape driven camera. Another camera similar to the pervious camcorder, but more geared to the eXtreme sports person is the Samsung SCX105L MPEG4 Sports Cam that you can pick up for around $500.
